It's official.
Just killed my (formerly) main Pretty Goes with Pretty blog. Likewise, just renamed this tumblr Pretty Goes with Pretty. I’m now here 100% of the time, not counting the 50% when I’m on Twitter and the 25% when I’m on Facebook and the 10% when I’m writing about tennis. Tumblr, I’m with you—I’m all in. I’m all in. Don’t screw it up.

State of My Social Media Feeds, Post-Super Bowl...
Twitter: lots and lots of people riding high horses about possibly fictitious other people who are offended by M.I.A.’s middle finger. No one actually bothered by M.I.A.’s middle finger—a testament to how I curate my twitter feed or an indication of how much of a non-issue this is. One person still tweeting about the game. Tumblr: one person posting about M.I.A. Everyone else...

January Mix - Pretty Goes with Pretty →
Click through for this month’s mix: Juliana Barwick: Never Change (indie’s Enya, but still good!) Etta James: Seven Day Fool (RIP) Disappears: Replicate (Disappears year 3 will clearly be as good or better than years 1 and 2) Zammuto: F U C-3PO (my first impression was “ELO meets Sung Tongs/Feels-era Animal Collective; PS: Nick Zammuto’s new act has potential to be...

– Tim Hecker interview at Resident Advisor This is really good - he says some very intelligent stuff without sounding too esoteric or bandwagon-jumping; e.g., on Ravedeath “The record is not about the technology. In some ways it isn’t about anything at all, like an expression of bare composition....

I'm a Librarian
(sitting in a Dallas hotel hallway)
Lady: Are you a librarian?
Me (suspiciously): Yes...
Lady: This is horrible, but I'm going to throw a book away in front of you.
Me: Ok....
Lady: Unless you want it? A guide to Paris?
[lady dumps book into trash can]
Me: You could recycle it!
[lady turns and walks away]

When I revisited Overcome by Happiness the other day I thought I’d make a “10 best indie pop albums of all time” list, vague as that genre might seem on deeper thought. However, I realized the only reason I wanted to do that was because I wanted to talk about how much I love Overcome by Happiness. (Okay but what the hell, here’s a list—which I spent three minutes coming up...

James Mercer looks like a Mark Eitzel doppleganger. PS this is the Shins covering Pink Floyd. PPS I’ve listened to “Simple Song” like eight times today and I have decided that I am really into it, even if it is not much a departure for Mercer.

DB: The first Albini record I heard was Songs About Fucking by Big Black when I was 16, so I really haven’t known about him for very long.  It’s this weird sentence where you think it’s gonna end one way, but it actually catches you from the other direction.

MIKE SNIPER: An Indie Label in 2012. →
rawkblog: mikesniper: I posted a recent Facebook comment regarding our policies with signing artists and found myself getting into a discussion of what the role of an independent label is in 2012, something I’ve oftened been asked about in interviews but have never really been able to elaborate on. Basically, it started off by requesting that bands don’t send us vinyl LP’s or professionally...
